Background:

Founded in 1885, the school moved to its present site in attractive grounds in 1955. Its premises, which include a large hall with a stage in addition to classrooms, were recently renovated and updated, and a large library added. ICT is networked to all classrooms and, in addition to a full range of national curriculum subjects, French is taught from Year 3 and German from Year 4. The school is involved in a European project linking it to schools in Italy and Austria. Basic subjects are enhanced through a programme of visits and residential stays. Music is strong; there is a choir and an orchestra, and 26 per cent of pupils from Years 2 to 6 learn instruments other than the recorder. Many sports are offered, including football, netball, cricket, rounders, swimming, cross-country, athletics and gymnastics; juniors attend the local sports club hall for coaching during the winter. There is also a strong drama club that stages productions. Links are maintained with local businesses and the church while funds are raised for charity every term and a Christmas carol service and harvest and Easter service are held annually.
