Background:

Created in 1976, developing from the former Horsham High School for Girls, the school takes its name from a large Victorian house that Thomas Oliver, a wealthy railway contractor, built for his wife and family in 1887. The school moved in 1994 to a site to the west of Horsham, where it is now housed in completely new buildings specially designed to meet needs of the national curriculum. The campus has been designed as village community around a central square and includes science and technology centres, interlinked suites of classrooms, a drama studio, music school, outdoor heated swimming pool, and sports hall with spectator accommodation. The school is over-subscribed, with 300+ applications for 240 places, and is being expanded by the local education authority. It is 'notable' for music, drama and dance, its basketball and cross-country teams have won county championships and it offers a 'flourishing' Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
