Background:

Southway Junior School's facilities include a solar heated swimming pool, large playing fields, two playgounds and a natural pond. The buildings are housed in two double storey units and are linked by a hall, a dining hall, a library and offices. The 14 classrooms all have an book area which serves to complement the library. There are specialist rooms for music and special needs. There are facilities for pupils to learn the recorder (treble and descant), flute, clarinet, violin and cello. Every classroom has two computers and there is an ICT suite with 15 computers. The school is on the internet and has its own intranet. Extra-curricular activities include netball, athletics, drama, cricket, football and dance. Pupils from each class participate in the school council which is run by house captains, elected across the year groups. They organise fundraising events to suport charities at home and abroad. The school is proud of the links it has established with the community, both locally and worldwide. Local firms have provided sponsorship for sporting equipment, literacy resources and computers.
