Background:

Oathall is situated 15 miles north of Brighton, between Haywards Heath and the historic village of Lindfield and its catchment area includes Ardingly, Horsted Keynes, Lindfield, Scaynes Hill and most of Haywards Heath. A heated swimming pool, large sports hall and assembly hall are among the school's facilities and specialist accommodation includes a five-acre farm, resources centre, drama studio, information technology centre, community suite and a youth wing. A new building with specialist facilities for modern languages and a new music centre have recently been completed and further technology accommodation, a new drama studio and physical education facilities are planned. The average class size at the school is 23 and, as a result of reluctance to allow overcrowding and large classes, there is a small waiting list for out-of-area applicants. All pupils study two forgeign languages and information technology. The school is proud of the way it caters for highly-able pupils, while the least able also receive special help with basic skills. The school emphasises 'the quality of learning' and also offers a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities including concerts, sports, productions and travel. It has achieved the Investor in People Award and is 'committed to the development of potential into excellence within a caring and challenging environment'.
