Background:

Milton Mount First and Middle School is a two-form entry school situated in a residential area. The school was opened in 1972 and the modern buildings comprise 14 class bases and areas for science, food technology, art and craft, drama and music. There is a purpose-built ICT suite, a newly extended central library, a hall and a cloakroom. The school grounds have large grassed areas, mature trees and designated play areas. There is a school nature trail through a small wooded area for the study of small creatures in science lessons. The grounds also contain a football pitch and a fenced play area for the reception class. A wide range of after-school clubs is provided for children throughout the school. These include football, netball, basketball, cricket, volleyball, tennis, drama, choir, dance, computing, percussion, chess, table tennis and art. Residential trips take place annually in the summer term. Peripatetic music teachers visit the school to give weekly lessons in violin, keyboards, brass, woodwind, guitar, drums and cello. There is an active Friends of Milton Mount association, which organizes fundraising events throughout the year. The school aims to create a happy, caring and purposeful atmosphere where children are encouraged to develop their natural talents and abilities.
