Background:
North Heath Community Primary School was founded in the 1970s. The school occupies a modern building surrounded by its own field, serving an area in the north of Horsham. It benefits from French teaching provided by Millais School, which has specialist language college status, and peripatetic teaching of violin, flute, cello and guitar. Class assemblies provide children with the opportunity to show parents some of the work they have been doing. All children are encouraged to take on a speaking role and are involved in at least one class assembly a year. Drama used to improve pupils' writing and self-confidence. Physical education undertaken daily. During fundraising events, children are encouraged to get involved. They help collect items to sell, such as books and videos, and help to run the stalls at Christmas and summer fairs. Beacon status (2000); Schools Curriculum Award (1995); Artsmark Gold (2004); Basic Skills Quality Mark (2004); DfES achievement award (2003). Ethos: 'A calm, happy and hardworking school that always seeks to improve'.
