Background:
Sackville Community College founded by public subscription in 1859 as a National Church School on a site provided by Countess Amherst, a descendant of Thomas Sackville. It moved to its current site in 1964, and became comprehensive in 1970. Students are drawn from East Grinstead with a proportion coming from Kent, East Sussex and Surrey. The school offers a full range of extra-curricular activities, which takes place after-school, at the weekends and in the school holidays. There is also a full range of inter-school fixtures and its teams regularly win county and regional competitions. The school has Specialist Engineering School Status. The school has an excellent reputation in the local community for its sporting successes, its work with other establishments though the community service programme, for its charity fund raising and for being an excellent inclusive, comprehensive school. The school aims to create an ethos in which the love of learning is generated and respected; maximising opportunities for students to develop as capable, caring, creative and confident young people.
