Background:

Leechpool Lane Primary dates from 1960 but also benefits from two recent extensions. The buildings are 'light and airy' with classrooms displaying a range of children's work. The 'extensive' school grounds have recently been improved, with parental support which is 'valued highly', 'every effort' being made to work with parents in 'developing and extending the pupils' education'. Art is a 'feature' of the school and art work from pupils has provided displays in public buildings in the local community. Written work is also a 'strength' and children have won prizes in a local poetry competition. The school is involved in local and national charity work - many events are organised by the school council, representing the whole school. Pupils also take part in a large number of community sporting events with 'considerable success'. For example, the football team reached the South East Finals in 2000, and the school runs a full range of after-school clubs including sport, music, art and drama. From September 2000 these will include an after school homework club, and the school will also provide a playgroup for three year olds and a nursery for four year olds.
