Background:

Westergate is a mixed comprehensive catering for all levels of ability in the crucial secondary years of schooling. The school is set in spacious grounds and the overall quality of the learning environment is conductive to high levels of achievement. Westergate also acts as a centre for many other aspects of community education, leisure and social activities. In the formal curriculum the main sports covered are soccer, netball, rounders, cricket, rugby, badminton, basketball, volleyball, athletics, gymnastics and dance. In addition, there are also enrichment activities in table tennis, aerobics, and trampolining, as well as the curricular activities. The school has a comprehensive fixture list in most of the main team sports. Musical activities play a significant part in the life at Westergate, with students participating in performances by the choir and concert band as well as smaller bands and ensembles formed by the students themselves. Activities, mostly take place in the afternoons, and it strongly encourages all students to participate. A wide range of sporting activities including gymnastics, football, cricket, mountain biking, badminton, basketball, table tennis, netball and watersports. The school aims to provide the opportunities, challenges and support, which will encourage and inspire all students to strive for excellence in all their achievements.
