Background:

Medmerry Primary was opened in 1905 on the site of the first state school in Selsey. The school follows the national curriculum and the West Sussex curriculum guidelines to give a 'broad and balanced curriculum'. ICT is taught throughout the school and most classrooms have two computers. Pupils are taught how to use them from reception onwards, and junior computers are networked and connected to the internet. PE is taught two to three times a week, and this includes outdoor games, gymnastics and dance. During the second half of the summer term juniors swim at Manhood Community College. 'Frequent' visits are made to places of interest locally and a four day residential trip takes place in Year 6. The school encourages pupils to join school clubs which include football, netball, gymnastics, athletics, guitar, violin, choir, recorders and computers. Medmerry aims to 'ensure that children have a sound understanding of the key subjects' while encouraging a 'caring attitude'. It works closely with the church and other community groups so that both pupils and parents are 'involved in and feel part of the community'. The Friends of Medmerry School Association arranges fundraising activities and functions throughout the year.
