Background:
Founded in 1812, the school has been substantially refurbished since the 1960s and now includes a number of science laboratories, technology rooms and ICT suites, which are situated alongside its large playing field. The school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities in addition to work experience, outings and residential and community outreach. The school holds the Sports Mark Gold and Artsmark Gold and has been presented with the Investors in People award for staff development. The school describes itself as a Christian, caring school reaching out into the community, and committed to high achievement and lifelong learning. The Technology College and Edge school status enables staff to work alongside other schools in the quest for continual improvement.
