Background:
The school opened in 1953 and the buildings are typical of the time with flat roofs and large areas of glass. The extensive grounds offer a variety of environments for both study and recreation including a large pond area, stream, orchard, quiet areas for Key Stage1 and Key Stage2, pitches for hockey and football, and tennis and netball courts on hard play areas. Music has been strength of the school for a long time. Children have the opportunity to learn the clarinet, flute, violin, cello, double bass, trumpet and recorder, while the choir and orchestra meet once a week. After-school and lunchtime activities include rugby, football, netball, table tennis, drama, chess, dance, rounders and cricket. The school is proud of its community links. It is regularly used by community groups and has connections with the local church, a Saturday morning football club and local netball league. The school aims to help each child gain the knowledge and skills which will help them gain a better understanding of the world in which they live, and promote and enable further learning throughout their primary and secondary years and later life.
