Background:

A school was first set up by the Anglican Church in Albourne in 1844, but the current school moved to its present site in the early 1960s. It retains its links with the Church of England. The school building has undergone extensive alterations and improvements in recent years and now offers an 'extra large' early years base, including an enclosed play area. All classrooms are carpeted and 'well equipped', and all pupils have access to a a range of computers, including a 'well-equipped computer room with CD Roms and access to the internet'. The school hall is used by all classes for dance, drama, PE and music as well as for assemblies and lunches. The library is 'well stocked' and provides an additional quiet teaching area. The school grounds have gardens, different play areas for play and a school field with sports facilities. Extra-curricular activites are encouraged and pupils of all ages are taken on trips and visits. Older pupils are offered residential trips including an exchange with French pupils. Extra sport is offered including inter-school matches and competitions in swimming, netball, football, athletics and summer games. Music, drama and environmental clubs are also available. An 'active' school council was established in 1999, and the 'flourishing' PTA, raises money to help fund extra equipment and facilities for the school.
